| Man Convicted of Attempted Rape in Riyadh |

RIYADH, — The Supreme Judicial Council has sentenced a local man to 11 years of imprisonment and 1,000 lashes after he broke into a home, robbed a woman and attempted to rape her at gunpoint. “According to the descriptions of the man given by the lady, Riyadh police forces expedited a manhunt for the suspect and took the necessary procedures to look for him,” Riyadh Police said in a statement to Arab News. The police said the woman managed to make an emergency phone call while the suspect was in her home. After stealing money and a mobile phone, the woman said the suspect attempted sexual assault. He was sentenced for breaking and entering, theft and attempted rape. Police said the man was also wanted for raping another woman at gunpoint. A Shariah court sentenced the man and his case was then transferred to concerned authorities to apply the ruling.
